Shameful Austerity And Morals

Rosa Parks ..
It was 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, and Rosa, a 42 year-old African-American, was on the number 2857 bus home. She was in an area reserved for black people but the bus filled up and custom meant she was expected to give up her seat as white passengers were having to stand. She refused. Rosa was arrested and convicted but her defiance helped change race relations across the world and she became a leading civil rights activist. She died in 2005 at the age of 92.

NHS targets say 85% of cancer patients should begin their first treatment within two months of being urgently referred by a GP. When Jeremy Hunt started at the Department of Health, 87.3% had started treatment in that time. When he left, that had dropped to 78.3%.

During a radio interview about police probes into historical child abuse allegations, Boris Johnson said that money spent on the investigations had been “spaffed up the wall” and would have been better used putting officers on the street.

Emily Davison ..
One of the most prominent Suffragettes, Emily lived and died for the cause. She was appalled at the way women were treated – particularly being denied the right to vote – and joined Emmeline Pankhurst’s Women’s Social and Political Union in 1906.
Her protests would often lead to imprisonment but she would continue campaigning in jail and she went on hunger strike in Strangeways. Emily was killed aged 40 in 1913 at the Epsom Derby after throwing herself in front of the King’s horse, Anmer. Some believe that she had been planning to attach the WSPU flag to the animal.

More than half (165 of 323) of all magistrates courts in England and Wales have been closed since 2010, forcing defendants, witnesses, police, lawyers and judges to travel sometimes more than 50 miles to access local justice. Seven more are set to close by September this year.

Boris Avoided As Much Questioning As Possible ..
During his time as London Mayor, Boris Johnson bought water cannons for £320,000, although he never used them and sold them at a £300,000 loss.
He also wasted £46million of public money on his botched Garden Bridge without ever beginning construction. He dropped targets for new affordable homes and slammed the ‘lefty’ idea of social housing as something that’s ‘not good for people’. The Estuary Airport was a Boris vanity project. He spent around £10million of taxpayers money on a scheme which was ultimately rejected by the Davies Commission. When Ken Livingstone was London Mayor he took questions every week until the journalists had run out of questions to ask. Boris Johnson avoided as much questioning as possible and took only one question per journalist with a strict half-hour cut-off time at his press conference, once a month. Likewise, he cut the State of London Debate from a day at a weekend to two hours on a weekday evening.

Benazir Bhutto ..
The twice prime minister of Pakistan had followed her dad into politics – and, like him, lost her life because of it. She vehemently denied allegations of corruption but relocated to Dubai before returning in 2007 after being granted amnesty from the charges. She became leader of the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party but was shot at a political rally in December 2007 before a suicide bomb went off moments later. Benazir was 54.

When Jeremy Hunt became health secretary, 95.4% of cancer patients urgently referred by their GP were seen by a specialist within two weeks, exceeding the national 93% target. When he left in July 2018, the proportion seen in that time had dropped to 91.9%.

The NHS Constitution says at least 95% of patients attending A&E should be admitted, transferred or discharged within 4 hours. When Jeremy Hunt took over as health secretary in 2012, 94.9% were seen in that time. By the time he left 6 years later, that figure had dropped to 84%.

The First Lady Of The Suffragettes ..
Born in 1869, Lady Constance Lytton was painfully shy and educated for nothing but marriage. She only ever had one love affair – a tepid attachment to an impecunious soldier – and when it fizzled out she became a full-time companion to her widowed mother, a lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria. In 1908, her life underwent an extraordinary transformation. Seeking a good cause on which to spend a legacy from her great-aunt, Constance was invited to help a charity that encouraged working-class girls to take up morris dancing. There she met Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence and her husband, Fred, supporters of the women’s suffrage movement, and heard the stories of women who had gone to prison for their activism.
Among the suffragettes she found an irresistible combination of excitement, martyrdom and friendship. After publishing a pamphlet in support of the cause, she rapidly moved on to direct action. Sentenced to a month in prison, her photograph all over the papers, she was shocked when her working-class comrades were confined in ordinary cells, while she and Emmeline were sent to the relative comfort of the prison hospital. In a defiant act of self-mutilation, she began to scratch ‘Votes for Women’ into her flesh with a needle, threatening to incise the words into her face unless she was moved to the cells. The authorities gave in. Renaming herself ‘Jane Warton’, she cut and dyed her hair, put on a pair of pence-nez, a shapeless tweed coat and a hat so dowdy that small boys jeered at her in the street. At a demonstration in Liverpool, ‘Jane’ got herself arrested, and when she refused food, her jaw was forced open with a steel gag, a rubber tube was pushed down her throat and a mixture of milk, gruel, eggs, brandy sugar and beef tea poured in. When she vomited, the doctor slapped her. The process was repeated six times before her identity was discovered and she was released. The public scandal was tremendous. Constance, almost 6ft tall, left prison weighing just 7st 7lb. She gave a speech at a packed Queen’s Hall, where many in the audience wept to hear her description of being force-fed. Calls were made for a public inquiry. The Home Office refused – insisting that force-feeding was no more than mildly unpleasant – but behind the scenes the Home Secretary, Winston Churchill, introduced a number of concessions, including medical examinations of all prisoners before they were force-fed. ‘She has indeed gained a victory over the Government’, wrote Christabel Pankhurst. But the victory was hard won. Constance’s health was broken, and two years later, in 1912, she suffered a stroke. She died in 1923, five years before women were granted the vote on the same terms as men.

Ex-UK Prime Minister David Cameron was the Director of Corporate Affairs at Carlton TV from July 1994 to February 2001.
Central TV made a documentary revealing Westminster paedophiles. When David Cameron was with Carlton TV, he was the executive responsible for buying out Central TV and burying that documentary.

Anne Frank ..
Anne’s Jewish family fled Nazi Germany and settled in Amsterdam but Hitler invaded the Netherlands in 1940. The Franks began hiding in an annexe above her dad’s office and friends provided them with food and drink. Teenager Anne recorded her feelings in her diary until August 1944, three days before Germans stormed the building. She died aged 15 at the Bergen-Belsen death camp but her diary has become one of the most treasured books ever.

64% has been slashed from Liverpool’s council budget and 3,000 staff lost since 2010. Tory cuts are making it harder for local government workers to provide the public services we all rely on.
( Dan Carden, 17.06.2019 )

In 2015, Jeremy Hunt said, “we want 5,000 more GPs by 2020”. Figures show that when Mr Hunt left the Department of Health in July 2018, there were just 162 more than when he made his commitment. The government has now dropped the time limit on the commitment.

The First Woman To Be Awarded The Military Cross ..
Michelle Norris showed outstanding bravery in Iraq in 2006 when she saved the life of a colleague who had been shot in the mouth. Aged 19, the then private, from Stourbridge, West Midlands, leapt out of her patrol vehicle and dodged sniper fire to give treatment for three minutes before helping drag him to safety. One bullet hit her rucksack.

Boris Johnson ..
Born in New York in 1964, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson has always been ambitious. His sister Rachel said he wanted as a child to be “king of the world”.
Boris married his first wife, Allegra Mostyn-Owen, in 1987 after they met at Oxford, but split after allegedly having an affair with author and lawyer Marina Wheeler, whom he married in 1993. Johnson then met fellow journalist Petronella Wyatt when he was the editor of The Spectator and she was one of his columnists. The two began an affair shortly before he was elected Conservative MP for Henley in 2001. The Sun newspaper reported news of their relationship in 2004, along with claims that Wyatt had fallen pregnant and had an abortion.

Britain’s Special Relationship With Israel ..
Britain has a special relationship with Israel that is little recognised in the mainstream media but unmissable in light of the killings in Gaza. With more than 110 protesters dead, Britain is in effect defending Israeli actions. The British government has not, as far as I have seen, actually condemned Israel for the killings, Rather, it has simply ‘urged Israel to show restraint’ while recognising its ‘right to secure itself’ and also blaming Hamas for the violence. When British Prime Minister Theresa May phoned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 10 May, by which date 40 Palestinian protesters in Gaza had already been shot, it appears she did not even raise the issue. Meanwhile, the government infers it will not even review UK arms exports to Israel after the Gaza massacres which have only been discussed once in the British cabinet. That Britain is supporting Israel over the Gaza killings is true to form. The UK’s relationship with Israel is special in at least nine areas, including arms sales, air force, nuclear deployment, navy, intelligence and trade, to name but a few. Britain abstained on the recent UN vote to authorise an investigation into the Gaza killings because it would not also investigate Hamas. Instead, the UK supports Israel carrying out its own inquiry. Last year, the Foreign Office refused to sign a joint statement at the Paris peace conference on Palestine, accusing it of ‘taking place against the wishes of the Israelis’.

Boris Johnson’s Whirl-Winding Hypocrisy ..
In April 2016, Boris Johnson penned a column for the Daily Telegraph outlining the benefits of the EU, claiming that “the membership fee seems rather small for all that market access”. Later that day, he defeated his own points by coming out for Brexit as one of the leaders of the Leave campaign – judging that it would better serve his career prospects than back remain. Boris Johnson’s whirl-winding hypocrisy knows no bounds. He backed single market membership during the campaign, only to later claim that single market is “not Brexit”, and he voted both for and against Theresa May’s Brexit deal on various occasions. What’s more, he has written to Theresa May saying that ensuring “no border” between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland should not be priority, just months after telling the House of Commons that “there can be no hard border”. He is a man whose inflated ego far outstrips his judgement and principles, and his long history of flip-flopping deprives him of any credentials for leadership.
( Olaf Stando, 10.06.2019 )

When he was Mayor what did Boris Johnson cost London ?
Up to over £600million in poor decisions, ideological dogma and vanity schemes.
( Christian Wolmar, Independent, 08.09.2015 )

Indira Gandhi ..
India’s only female prime minister remains a highly-revered stateswoman 35 years after she was assassinated. She became involved with the Indian Independence movement before she led her country for the first time in 1966. She was at the helm during the victorious war with Pakistan in 1971 that resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh. She lost the 1977 election but regained power in 1980.
She was 66 and serving her fourth term when she was killed in 1984.

Nuclear Weapons In The Middle East ..
Israel is believed to possess 80 to 100 nuclear warheads, some of which are deployed on its submarines. The UK is effectively aiding this nuclear deployment by supplying submarine components to Israel. According to the commander of Haifa naval base, General David Salamah, Israel’s submarines regularly operate “deep within enemy territory”. Britain has a long history of helping Israel to develop nuclear weapons. In the 1950s and 1960s Conservative and Labour governments made hundreds of sales of nuclear materials to Israel, including plutonium and uranium. The contrast with British policy towards Iran is striking. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson states that the UK is “adamant that a nuclear-armed Iran would never be acceptable” and thus maintains sanctions against Iran. At the same time Britain refuses to adopt any sanctions against Israel, an actual nuclear state. In 1995, the UK and other states agreed to a UN resolution to establish a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East. It is not known whether Britain has ever seriously pressed Israel on this.

A Life Not Lived For Others Is Not A Life

Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.

It’s a good feeling when someone simply asks, ‘How are you ?’

I don’t want to be alone. I want to be left alone.
( Audrey Hepburn )

I sometimes think of the people who weren’t there for me, and thank them for forcing me to find my own way.

We owe no one any explanation of what we do or say.
Our life is ours, not theirs.

Self-care is not being selfish, it’s a necessity.
If you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to care for others.

Always appreciate and be good to the people who make an effort to stay in your life.

Whether you are right or wrong, someone will always criticise you.

Some people decide to go through their darkest times alone.
Not telling and not asking family or friends for help.

To care for the old folk who once cared for us is something we all should do.

If you don’t do stupid things while you are young,
You will have nothing to laugh about when you are old.

If you see something good in someone, tell them.
It may only take a few seconds to say,
But for them, it may help them on their way.

Instead of wiping away your tears, wipe away the people who make you cry.

Be kind to yourself, and then let your kindness fill the hearts of others.

There is nothing that gives us trouble more than our own thoughts.

Life doesn’t always give you what you want.
Not because you don’t deserve it, but because you deserve much more.

Sometimes, in the end, all we learn is how to be strong alone.

I don’t want much.
I just want people who are reading this to be healthy, happy and loved.

I greet this new day with joy, a priceless gift of a new day, another day reprieved from death. I am indeed a fortunate soul and the hours of today are a bonus, and probably undeserved compared to some who left too soon.

One of the most valuable gifts we can receive is an honest friend.

Honesty, truth, compassion, respect ..
Without these in our life we have pretty much nothing.

Greed is responsible for almost all the misery and the suffering in the world today. Our leaders, the corporations, and those with power, continue to put their greedy snouts deeper and deeper into the trough, and don’t give a shit about who, or what, they destroy.

I don’t really care what others think of me.
I’m just happy doing my own thing.

If a hateful person makes you hate, they win.
If a bully makes you a bully, they win.
Don’t be hateful, and don’t be a bully, don’t let them win.
This is how our country, and the world, will win.

If you can make one person laugh long enough to forget their problems then your day wasn’t wasted.

Words From Mother Teresa ..

Loneliness and the feeling of being uncared for and unwanted are the greatest poverty.

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean…
But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.

We can do no great things, only small things with great love.

Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within the reach of every hand.

Duty is a very personal thing.. It is what comes from knowing the need to take action and not just a need to urge others to do something.

I see God in every human being.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

Intense love does not measure, it just gives.

Profound joy of the heart is like a magnet that indicates the path of life.

If you can’t do great things, do little things with great love.
If you can’t do them with great love, do them with a little love.
If you can’t do them with a little love, do them anyway.
Love grows when people serve.

Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.. Be the living expression of God’s kindness.. kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile.

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

I know God won’t give me anything I can’t handle.. I just wish he didn’t trust me so much.

Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.

God doesn’t require us to succeed, He only requires that you try.

Live simply so others may simply live.

Prayer is not asking.. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depth of our hearts.

I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot.. together we can do great things.

A life not lived for others is not a life.

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.

I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, He will not ask, ‘How many good things have you done in your life ?’ rather He will ask, ‘How much love did you put into what you did?’

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.

I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God, who is sending a love letter to the world.

One of the greatest diseases is to be nobody to anybody.

Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls.
A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love.

It is a kingly act to assist the fallen.

I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary.
What we need is to love without getting tired.
Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody.. I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.. Do good anyway.

When you don’t have anything, then you have everything.

Yesterday is gone.. Tomorrow has not yet come.. We have only today.. Let us begin.

Music Was My Refuge

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
( John Quincy Adams )

We should always do what is right, not what is easy.

You may have made some mistakes, and you may not be where you want to be, but that’s got nothing to do with your future.
( Zig Ziglar )

Before you ask yourself why someone doesn’t like you.
Ask yourself why you even care.

I used to think the top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. But I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy. And to deal with those we need a spiritual and cultural transformation. And we scientists don’t know how to do that.
( Gus Speth )

Smile at people who don’t like you. They hate it.

Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it.
( Stevie Wonder )

We are none of us alone.
Even as we exhale it is inhaled by others.
The light that shines on us shines on our neighbour as well.
In this way, we are connected to our friend even as we are connected to our enemy.

Music was my refuge..
I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.
( Maya Angelou )

Being rich is not what you have in your bank account..
It’s what you have in your heart.

For every good reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth.
( Bo Bennett )

When the character of someone is not clear to you, look at their friends.

Most people don’t really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.
( Mother Teresa )

Running away from a problem only increases the distance from the solution.

All I ever wanted was to reach out and touch another human being..

Then start with yourself.. After that, everything falls into place.

The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone.

If you are lucky enough to find someone as crazy as you, never let them go.

Loneliness adds beauty to life.
It puts a special burn on sunsets and makes night air smell better.

( Marcus Aurelius )

Worry is a total waste of time.. It doesn’t change anything.
All it does is steal your joy and keep you very busy doing nothing.

If you are depressed, you are living in the past.
If you are anxious, you are living in the future.
If you are at peace, you are living in the present.
( Lao Tzu )

Sometimes we need someone to simply be there..
Not to say anything or fix anything..
But just to let us know they are on our side, and that they care.

When you realise how perfect everything is..
You will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.

( Augustine of Hippo )

We were not born to just pay bills and then die.

As you grow older, you slowly realise what really matters.
You realise that happiness does not come from the material things in the world.
You realise it comes from spending our short time here living and laughing with those we love and with those we care about.. So stay humble, we all end up the same way.

Beware, some people just act like they are trying to help you.

Your Hands Are Full Of Blood

Dominion Over The Animals ..
The bible, on many occasions, says that man was given “dominion” over the animals. People have twisted this to mean that they can do anything they wish to animals. What is meant by “dominion” is the ability to impose our will. We do indeed rule over all animals, as we are the most powerful species on the planet.
This however, does not mean it is okay to abuse this power, through animal abuse, and other wicked acts.
( Denis Giron )

For every beast of the forest is Mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird of the mountains, and everything that moves in the field is Mine.
( Psalm 50:10-11 )

To do charity and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
( Proverbs 21:3 )

Throughout the bible there are many stories that have a strong moral value. Whenever you read a story in the bible, ask yourself what the moral of that story was. It has to have a moral, because if there is no moral, then the story has no relevance. Surely nothing in the bible is irrelevant. In Numbers 22: 21-34, there is the story of Balaam beating his donkey. Within these verses is a strong story about animal abuse, suffering, and animal rights.
( Denis Giron )

What I want is mercy, not sacrifice.
( Hosea 6:6 )

God Does Not Command Animal Sacrifice ..
The idea of animal rights being expressed in the bible comes under fire from those who point to instances of animal sacrifice. I admit the many mentionings of animal sacrifice in the bible have troubled me in the past. How can a merciful God command us to sacrifice animals ? The truth of the matter is, we are NOT supposed to sacrifice animals. God does not command us to do this. The truth is, in Moses’ time, after the Jews came out of Egypt, God allowed animal sacrifices for that time period. The great Jewish philosopher Abarbanel believed animal sacrifice was briefly allowed by God in order to end the idolatry the Jews practiced in Egypt. He cited a Jewish writing that indicated that the Jews had become accustomed to sacrifices in Egypt. To wean them from these idolatrous practices, God tolerated the sacrifices but commanded that they be offered in one central sanctuary.
( Denis Giron )

Your Hands Are Full Of Blood ..
The multitude of your sacrifices, what are they to me ? I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals. I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts? Stop bringing meaningless offerings. Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations, I cannot bear your evil assemblies. Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have become a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood. Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing wrong.
( Isaiah 1:11-16 )

Across the globe, there is a small handful of vegetarian Christians who assert that Jesus was a vegetarian. The bible, and other sources, seems to support this belief. Vegetarianism is not without precedent in the Christian, or even Catholic faiths. Many early church fathers were vegetarian, including St. Basil, St. John Chrysostom, and St. Francis of Assisi.
( Denis Giron )

Refrain at all times from such foods as cannot be procured without violence and oppression.
( Thomas Tryon )

Meat Corrupts Your Heart ..
Throughout history there has been many vegetarian jews. Even today, only India has more faith-based vegetarians than Israel. These vegetarian jews believed meat corrupted your soul. Eating meat was permitted by God, but so was drinking alcohol. In fact, just like alcohol, the bible teaches, meat makes you “stumble”, or corrupts your heart (Romans 14-21). That is why Jesus, the Messiah, would eat butter and honey, instead of meat, so that his heart would not be corrupted. Before, during, and after Jesus’ time Jews argued whether or not meat was good for people. There were many vegetarian jews, so why not Jesus ?
( Denis Giron )

Until we consider animal life to be worthy of the consideration and reverence we bestow upon old books and pictures and historic monuments, there will always be the animal refugee living a precarious life on the edge of extermination, dependent for existence on the charity of a few human beings.
( Gerald Durrell )

The Prophet Daniel Was A Vegetarian ..
In the first chapter of the book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon has imprisoned Daniel. In verse 8, Daniel refused to defile himself by eating the meat being served to him in the prison. Daniel abstained from the meat offered because he was a vegetarian. He knew the benefits of such a diet. Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over him: “Please test your servants for ten days. Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their meat and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead (Daniel 1:11-16).
( Denis Giron )

Animals have a short life, yet we choose not only to kill them and make it shorter, we abuse and torture the poor souls beforehand. What does that say about us when we can’t even show a little compassion and kindness before we brutally slaughter them and mutilate their bodies ?
( Len Firswood )

Let Us Be Kind To Animals ..
Life is as precious to us as it is for an animal. An animal is as loving, caring, and kind to her children as we are. She might not be able to tell us but she can express it through her eyes and expressions. She feels joy and happiness. She is helpless in our cruel hands and vulnerable to our vicious greed. Let us be kind to animals.

Let us learn to feel their pain. Can we kill a helpless baby to feed our greed ? Then how can we kill helpless animal friends that can’t talk ? Often we kill just for fun. How funny would it be if an animal killed a human just for fun ? Let us be kind to animals as much as possible. I know we can. It is easier to love an animal than a human being. If you love an animal, it will rarely hurt you. Let us practice kindness and compassion to animals so that we may create a peaceful world.

The prophesy in Isaiah 7:15 said Jesus would eat butter and honey (rather than meat) to be able to know the difference between good and evil. If Jesus ate meat, then he does not fit the Messianic prophesy of the Jews. Nowhere in the bible does it ever mention Jesus eating meat. Now, knowing that the bible never mentions him eating meat, and taking into account the fact that Jesus taught love and kindness, how hard is it to assume he might have been a vegetarian ?

I encourage everyone to go where their hearts take them, with love, not fear. If we all travel this road, the world will be a better place for all beings. Kinder and more humane choices will be made when we let our hearts lead the way. Compassion begets compassion and caring for and loving animals spills over into compassion and caring for humans. The umbrella of compassion is very important to share freely and widely.

What About Fish ? ..
In the 14th chapter of Matthew (verses 13-21) Jesus takes his boat to a remote island. Thousands follow him there. Jesus tells his disciples to feed these people, but they tell him that they only have five loaves of bread and two fish (verse 17). Jesus gave thanks for the food, and it multiplied into enough to feed five thousand people. Now the question is, if Jesus was a vegetarian, why was he giving fish to his followers ? It should be noted that some scholars contend that the Greek word for “fish weed” (a dried seaweed) has been mistranslated in this story as “fish”. It is certainly true that dried fishweed would be more likely in a basket with bread, and fishweed remains a popular food among Palestinian peasants like the people to whom Jesus was speaking. Also, in the beginning of the story (Matthew 14:13) it says Jesus got to this place by boat. These people were right by the sea. If they were out of fish, why not just go on a quick fishing expedition ? Surely with 5,000 men present it would not be that hard to go fishing. With this in mind, it further supports the thought that fishweed was being used, not actual fish. Also, when one considers that the disciples did not even think about trying to catch some fish, this helps explain Matthew 4:18-20, where Jesus gets his first disciples by telling some fishermen to give up their profession and follow him. Jesus even says to them “I will make you a fisher of men”. Could this be Jesus was having them give up their barbaric line of work to do something more righteous ? It may sound absurd, but it starts to make a little more sense when you take it in the same context as the story of feeding five thousand, where the disciples never even considered trying to catch some fish, despite being beside the sea. Why didn’t they go fishing ? Did Jesus teach it was wrong to eat fish ?

Surely it is our animal nature that recognizes the divinity of the natural world in all its mystery and beauty, despite the distressing habits and limited perception that afflict our species. So perhaps our hope of redemption lies in the fact that we are animals, not that we are people.
( Elizabeth Marshall Thomas )

People pray to God for mercy and justice but continue to eat the flesh of animals that are slaughtered solely for their gustatory desires. I fail to understand why the masses believe it’s okay to bring gentle animals into the world with the sole intention of hurting them and then brutally killing them. What, or who, gave us the right or the authority to do this? Certainly not a loving God or Creator.
( Rose Winfold )

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast.
But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Proverbs 12:10 –  Meaning a good man is merciful. He is gentle and kind. He is ruled by pity and compassion. He will not be mean or hard. But the wicked are cruel. Even their kindness is harsh, for they lack the tender, gentle spirit of the righteous man, who is concerned even for animals. They are not kind and merciful.

The Hidden Truths Of The Meat Industry

The Single Biggest Way To Reduce Our Impact On Earth ..
The word ‘veganism’ first came about in 1944, when teacher Donald Watson founded The Vegan Society in Leicester. It’s a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
It’s no longer disputed that eating less meat is better for the planet.
Animal agriculture is the leading cause of environmental destruction, species extinction, ocean dead zones and water pollution, yet we do little to counter it.
Studies prove that swapping to a vegan diet is the single biggest way to reduce our impact on earth. Critics of veganism frequently argue that soya is unsustainable, yet only 6% of all soya is used for human consumption. The overwhelming majority is used for animal feed. Countless studies link major diseases like cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes to the consumption of animal protein.
Switching to a plant-based diet has been proven to prevent, treat and even reverse heart disease and type two diabetes.
The health benefits of a plant-based diet have never been clearer. Tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams, F1’s Lewis Hamilton, boxer David Haye and many other elite athletes have all cited their vegan diet as reasons for their success, claiming they feel stronger and faster and their recovery is quicker.

The Kangaroo Killing Industry ..
Welcome to the world of the Kangaroo Killing Industry. It’s what the Kangaroo Killing Industry and their affiliates don’t tell you that is of greatest concern.
As an Indigenous woman, I’ve been exposing the Kangaroo Killing Industry for decades and I’m always amazed at the spin people blindly believe about kangaroos including that “Indigenous people ate them for thousands of years”. No, actually many of us didn’t and indeed don’t. You see, Kangaroo are a Sacred Totem Animal to many of we Indigenous people. They are a Creator Spirit and The Dreaming of Country and holding Kangaroo as Totem means for many Indigenous people we never ate it, or eat it, ever.
Generalised ignorance is what the Kangaroo Killing Industry thrives on and they run a mile when asked why they don’t have warnings on their packages regarding very real and justified concerns about kangaroo meat.
They think ongoing international trade or supermarket bans against the Industry based on inherent cruelty, unsustainable slaughter and ongoing meat contamination issues is nothing to worry about. Oh really?
Kangaroo meat carries a naturally heavy parasite load — a single Western or Eastern Grey Kangaroo can be infected with up to 30,000 parasitic worms from up to 20 different nematode species.
Over the years epidemics have wiped out many millions of kangaroos.
In Western NSW in 2016 millions of kangaroos died from an unknown, uncontrollable disease that is still undiagnosed, yet state and federal governments and the Kangaroo Killing Industry continue to slaughter kangaroos and sell the meat to consumers. There is some evidence gathered by a vet and pathologist from NSW western district that goats with similar symptoms of this still un-identified disease crosses the species barrier. If there was an epidemic in the animal agriculture industry, there would be thorough investigations, but not with the Kangaroo Killing Industry? Wild ‘game’ kangaroos can harbour a wide range of bacterial, parasitic and fungal diseases. The potential transfer of ‘zoonotic’ pathogens between species is possible but not well researched.
Toxoplasmosis and Salmonellosis, two bacterial infections affecting kangaroos and human health, can spread to humans through the handling, processing or consumption of infected kangaroo meat. Independent analyses from the past 20 years consistently turned up kangaroo meat that harboured the salmonella bacterium and other bacterial contaminants. This comes from the way that shooting and transport in the wild occurs.
Slaughtered kangaroos are transported in the open air, gathering dust and flies, stored in field chillers, and may not be transported to processors for up to 14 days after being shot. The fact that kangaroo shooters are being instructed to spray down kangaroo carcasses with acetic acid (combats pathogens) is also kept well hidden from you, the public. The cyst-forming tapeworm, Echinococcus granulosus, entered Australia on sheep and now affects kangaroos as intermediate hosts.
For too long this brutal industry of wretched animal cruelty has crept along under the radar. The time is long overdue for this slaughter of The Dreaming to be shown in all its reality. For you and your pets. Buyer beware.

The Truths Are Kept Hidden By The Meat And Dairy Industries ..
What we forget, when we pick up products from the supermarket shelves, is that the meat, dairy and egg industries are some of the most powerful in the world. Their marketing reflects this. People see labels like ‘humane milk’ and ‘humane meat’ and they believe them, yet these are myths, marketing ploys that exist only to make us feel better. The word humane means compassionate and kind, and because it means this, neither meat nor dairy can ever be considered it.
Dairy cows are forcibly impregnated to produce milk. Their calves are taken at birth. If he’s male, he’s often shot because he won’t produce milk, or he may be dumped, still alive, in ditches like garbage. Alternatively he’ll be locked in a pen, unable to move, touch grass, or even lie down, and when his muscles are soft enough, he’ll be killed and sold as veal. If the calf is female, she’ll lead the same life as her mother, repeatedly impregnated, her calves taken, and when she’s too spent to produce enough milk (around six years old) she’ll be sent to the slaughterhouse.
Cows naturally live to 25 years old.
The fact that all dairy cows end up as cheap beef isn’t widely known. Neither is the abhorrent treatment of newborn calves. But public ignorance is what the industry wants, and so the truths are kept hidden and the myths perpetuated.

Go Vegan And Nobody Gets Hurt ..
The vegan movement supports both non-human and human animals and helps them to live better lives. The term vegan refers to those who choose not to support the humiliation, exploitation, torture and killing of innocent animals.
One doesn’t eat leather, or ingest duck down or consume wool. You can’t munch on a circus or chow down on a zoo. It’s also notoriously difficult to scoff a horse race. Sadly, animal abuse doesn’t end with eating them.
As for those who say they won’t go vegan because they don’t want to eat processed foods, my jaw drops every time I hear that one. Do they have no idea how much processing meat, milk and egg products go through before they reach the supermarket shelves ? Some seem to imagine that a burger made from plants is ‘unnatural’ where as one made from a cow’s butt couldn’t be more pure. What utter nonsense. They seem to dismiss the antibiotics that are pumped into animals reared for meat, the hormones that rage inside two thirds of dairy cows at any one time (because they’re pregnant) and therefore make it into the milk humans consume, the colouring that is added to salmon to make it look pink, the water injected into chickens to make them heavier (as they’re sold by weight), and don’t even get me started on bacon.
Health and veganism are connected, in that having a whole foods, plant based diet (along with regular exercise and mindfulness) is your best chance of leading a long and healthy life. However, veganism is an ethical choice and non-human animals must be at the centre of it. Go vegan and nobody gets hurt.

Going meat-free can make a huge difference. Studies show that vegetarians are, on average, 10 to 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters and that a vegetarian diet reduces our risk of heart disease by 40% and adds seven or more years to our lifespan.

The Slaughter Of Billions Of Newly-Hatched Chicks ..
The public aren’t told about the practice of ‘chick culling’, the slaughter of billions of newly-hatched chicks every year. Male chicks are by-products of the egg industry, worthless because they don’t lay eggs, so they are macerated alive in high-speed grinders, asphyxiated by carbon dioxide, or suffocated in plastic bins.

Eating Any Meat Poses Serious Health Risks ..
The World Health Organisation declared processed meat a ‘carcinogen’ that increases the risk of colon or rectum cancer by 18%. But it’s not just processed meat that poses a health risk. Science has known for a while that eating all kinds of animals, including white meat, is unhealthy. Eating any meat, hormone-free or not, poses serious long-term risks to our health.
A vast array of studies from top universities and independent researchers has found that eating chickens, cows, pigs and other animals promotes cancer in many forms. Large studies in England and Germany showed that vegetarians were about 40% less likely to develop cancer compared to meat-eaters, the most common forms being breast, prostate, and colon cancers. A 2014 Harvard study found that just one serving a day of red meat during adolescence was associated with a 22% higher risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer and that the same red meat consumption in adulthood was associated with a 13% higher risk of breast cancer overall.

Mutilated At Birth ..
What about pigs, among the most intelligent, emotional and cognitively complex animals in the world ? Sows are kept in metal ‘gestation crates’ so small they can’t even turn around. They are mutilated at birth, their tails cut off, their teeth pulled, their ears tagged. In this country, we think the ‘humane’ way of killing them is to gas them. Forced into carbon dioxide gas chambers, pigs’ bodies burn from the inside as they suffocate. Their panicked, agonised screams can be heard far outside the chambers.

Consuming Meat And Dairy May Cause Impotence ..
Meat, eggs, and dairy products slow the flow of blood to all the body’s organs, and not just the heart. Originally, it was thought that impotence was caused only by anxiety, but according to the Erectile Dysfunction Institute, up to 90% of all cases of impotence are actually physical as opposed to psychological, meaning the high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, prostate cancer or inflammations, and hormonal imbalances that eating meat causes might also contribute to impotence.
Numerous physicians and nutritionists agree that the best way to prevent artery blockage as well as multiple other conditions that cause impotence is to eat a diet high in fibre, including plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

The Industrialisation Of Living Creatures ..
Unfortunately, animals have been victimised to the point where they’re not even considered victims anymore. In the UK, we’re appalled by the Yulin dog meat festival in China, dismayed by the Faroe Islands’ pilot whale hunt, but cows, pigs, chickens? They don’t count. The animals themselves disappear, they’re no longer living, breathing, feeling individuals, they’re commodities, walking hunks of flesh waiting to be killed. This isn’t even about meat anymore, it’s about the industrialisation of living creatures. Do these animals feel fear, as they’re lead into the slaughterhouse over ground coated in blood ? Do they feel pain, as they’re hung upside down and a knife is thrust into their throat? We know, from the abattoir footage no-one wants to watch, that the answers to these questions is ‘yes’.
If we could live in a world where we could not only survive but thrive without eating animal products. If there was an abundance of plant-based food at our disposal. If eating this way was infinitely less harmful to the environment. Should we still choose to kill animals? If these three hypotheses are true, can there ever be a moral justification for doing what we do to animals?
Vegans are called ‘extremists’, but what really is more extreme? Gratuitously exploiting and killing living beings for their milk, eggs and meat, or trying to encourage people not to kill unnecessarily?
