Whether you are here on business, pleasure or seeking asylum.
I wish you a pleasant stay.
( British Airways pilot’s announcement to passengers after landing at Heathrow )

There is no magic formula which says that Ukraine, under Western domination, will cease to be grossly corrupt, lawless, bankrupt and unfree.
Russia has shown quite clearly that it means what it has patiently said for years, and will fight against any further Western expansion of the EU.

( Peter Hitchens, 21.09.2014 )

Sacred to the memory of the 732 British military personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice.
And God rot the politicians like Tony Blair who sent them to their deaths.

( Paul Routledge, 14.11.2014 )

Chaos is a friend of mine.
( Bob Dylan )

Believing your ancestors are apes, and believing life was created without any sense or intelligence or purpose, may explain the arrogant and ignorant behaviour of some people.
( Rose Winfold )

What Is It About Theresa May?
She is walking proof that nothing succeeds like failure.
She is herself a militant, politically correct liberal, oddly reluctant to admit she went to a grammar school.

Crime is out of control, inefficiently concealed by fiddled figures.
Immigration is out of control, a fact that can’t be concealed.
She can’t even organise a public inquiry.
Yet her media sycophants portray her as a steely guardian of the State, and a potential premier.
I ask you.

( Peter Hitchens, 09.11.2014 )

Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they are in good company.
( Rene Descartes )

The Tory Broadcasting Corporation.
Many people these days gain attention by losing respect.
Wonder why they don’t just come clean and call it the TBC?
The Tory Broadcasting Corporation.
It’s vital that we keep a clear head and sharp eyes on the Beeb.
We know the Tories are liars.
We don’t expect the public broadcasters to fall for their lies.
I don’t.
They shouldn’t.
( Paul Routledge, 26.09.2014 )

People who destroy whole nations do not have the right to teach us democracy and the values of living freely.
( Vladimir Putin )

I’ve always resented the fact that when a cop drives by I feel paranoid instead of protected.
( Buddy Wakefield )

Idiots are always so damn sure about every damn, idiot thing they do in their damn, idiot life.

A decent society wouldn’t push millions of students into debt.
It would recognise that higher education isn’t mainly a personal investment.
It’s a public good.
( Robert Reich )

Believing that government can change the laws of economics is like believing we can change the laws of physics.

The government was set to protect man from criminals.
And the Constitution was written to protect man from the government.
( Ayn Rand )

Politically Correct.
A term used by whinging, over-sensitive wimps who have a problem understanding the real world.

When you walk up to opportunities door, don’t knock it.
Kick that bitch in, smile and introduce yourself.
( Dwayne Johnson )

I will cut people out of my life with no hesitation, no explanation, and no warning if they do phony shit, or I feel they can’t be trusted.
I’m getting too old to be hanging out with people who don’t understand the concept of loyalty.

I’m not going to censor myself to comfort your ignorance.
( Jon Stewart )

Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it.
Yet those who do study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it.

I spent much of my childhood wishing I was older.
Now I’m older, all this shit just sucks.

Those who presume to rule us are ignorant and incompetent and learn nothing from their own mistakes.
How dare these people, who can barely manage to keep their own country in one piece, presume to correct the woes of the world?

( Peter Hitchens, 28.09.2014 )

When I see someone dropping litter, I say, ‘I think you’ve dropped something’ or ‘Pick this up and put it in the bin’.
They look at you as if you were speaking Swahili.

( Joanna Lumley )

If your religion is worth killing for.
Please start by killing yourself.

All prime ministers want a war.
It makes them feel good and they think it makes them look tough.
Almost invariably, they get it wrong, but innocent people suffer along the way.

( Paul Routledge, 26.09.2014 )

It’s easier to get free WiFi than it is to get free water.
And people act like nothing is wrong with the world.

What kind of warped society do we live in where people dress up as half-dead, gory creatures and parade through the streets in the name of fun and entertainment?
( Rodica Wheeler, on Halloween )

Don’t Start Wars.
Wars cause far more atrocities than they prevent.

In fact, wars make atrocities normal and easy.
If you don’t like atrocities, don’t start wars.
It is a simple rule, and not hard to follow.
The only mercy in war, as all soldiers know, is a swift victory by one side or the other.
( Peter Hitchens, 28.09.2014 )

Some people are so poor, all they have is money.

We see lightning a few seconds before the sound of the thunder because light travels faster than sound.
Because of this phenomenon, people who were very close to a nuclear or atomic bomb would never have heard the bang, because they would have been incinerated by the heat which came with the flash before the sound reached them.

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for – in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
( Ellen Goodman )

A nation of sheep are ruled by wolves and owned by pigs.
( No offence intended to the sheep, wolves and pigs )

Scientists gather information, and if they can’t explain it, make up theories which exclude super-natural forces, because they are not allowed to even suggest there may be a God or a super-intelligent creator.
( Rose Winfold )

One of the benefits of being a mature, well-educated woman is that you are not afraid of expletives.
And you have no fear to put a fool in his place.
That’s the power of language and experience.
You learn a lot from Shakespeare.

( Dame Judi Dench )

We must stop making stupid people famous.

Do Drug Laws Exist Only On Paper?
Stephen Fry, BBC favourite and darling of the new Establishment, noisily confesses in a rather sad and attention-seeking new book to possession and use of cocaine in Buckingham Palace.
The official penalty for this offence is seven years in jail and an unlimited fine.
Could there be better proof that the elite know perfectly well that the laws against drug possession haven’t been enforced for years, and exist only on paper?
Mr Fry, who last week called me a ‘slug’, seems to think that I need to be instructed to criticise him.
He is mistaken.
I do it for my own pleasure, and because it is necessary.

( Peter Hitchens, 28.09.2014 )

One of the greatest fears in the world is the opinions of others.

Who controls the food supply, controls the people.
Who controls the energy, can control whole continents.
Who controls the money, can control the world.
( Henry Kissinger )

Truth is coming, and it cannot be stopped.
( Edward Snowden )

Libya Is Now In Flames.
Everyone knows now (I did at the time) that our Iraq adventure was stupid and wrong, and that we had no business in Afghanistan.
But I can well remember being told off sternly for not supporting David Cameron’s war in Libya, supposedly waged to prevent a fictional massacre and some fictional rapes.
Well, Libya is now in flames, British Embassy staff are fleeing the country and the place is far too dangerous for anyone to go there and report on it.
Massacres can proceed with impunity, and refugees head unhindered to Italy – and eventually here – in their thousands.

( Peter Hitchens, 03.08.2014 )

Those text messages that make you smile at your phone.

The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.
( Mark Twain )

We must close union offices, confiscate their money and put their leaders in prison.
We must reduce workers salaries and take away their right to strike.
( Adolf Hitler, 1933 )

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt.
People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance.
( Cicero, 55 BC )

Women In Politics.
Why do people think that women in politics will help ordinary women lead better lives?
Political females are almost all ambitious careerists who have decided, of their own free will, to work outside the home and spurn the task of raising children.
Such people have no time for those who think it better to stay at home and raise the next generation.
And they think all women are like them, actively preferring the office to the home.
But, in fact, millions of women go out to work because they have to, not because they want to.
( Peter Hitchens, 20.07.2014 )

Sometimes I prefer silence and don’t talk to anyone for days.
It’s nothing personal.

We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that death will tremble to take us.
( Charles Bukowski )

Thanking God for sparing you in a natural disaster is like sending a thank-you note to a serial killer for stabbing the family next door.
( Betty Bowers )

We have the right as individuals to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity.
But as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the public money.

( Davy Crockett )

Return Of The Black Death.
A Chinese man has died of the bubonic plague after he was bitten by a rodent, sparking fears the disease could go viral.
If it reached our shores it would be tremendous news for the Tories.
What with the bedroom tax, food banks, a 71% rise in malnutrition and child poverty soaring, the return of the Black Death would complete the full medieval misery set for Britain’s poor.
( Brian Reade, 26.07.2014 )

We are witnessing a transfer of wealth of unfathomable size.
It is a transfer of wealth from public hands, from the hands of government collected from regular people in the form of taxes, into the hands of the wealthiest corporations and individuals in the world.
( Naomi Klein )

Writer’s block happens when your imaginary friends won’t talk to you.
( Gary Lindberg )

Philosophy is dangerous.
The only thing that has started more wars is land.
( Steve McEllistrem )

For some reason we are brain-washed to think, if you are not a thug or an idiot, you are not black enough.
If you go to school, make good grades, speak intelligent, and don’t break the law, you are not a good black person.
It’s a dirty, dark secret in the black community.
( Charles Barkley )

Yesterday we obeyed kings and bent our necks before emperors.
But today we kneel only to truth, follow only beauty, and obey only love.
( Kahlil Gibran )

Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.
( John Stuart Mill, 1806-1873 )

For me, punk is about real feelings.
It’s not about, ‘Yeah, I am punk and I’m angry’.
That’s a lot of crap.

It’s about loving the things that really matter.
Passion, heart and soul.

( Joey Ramone )

If governments are involved in covering up the knowledge of aliens, then they are doing a much better job of it than they seem to do at anything else.
( Stephen Hawking )

Idiots walk among us, not knowing they are idiots.

Capitalism is religion.
Banks are churches.

Bankers are priests.
Wealth is heaven.
Poverty is hell.

Rich people are saints.
Poor people are sinners.

Commodities are blessings.
Money is God.

( Miguel D. Lewis )

We, the American people, are not each other’s enemies.
The enemies are those people behind the curtain jerking everybody’s chains and trying to divide us up by age, by race, by income.
( Ben Carson )

We, the people, are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.
( Abraham Lincoln )

The world is full of idiots, and someone needs to point it out to them or they will never know.
( Dr John Becker )

When they say, “You want to have your cake and eat it too?
I reply, “Of course, what good is cake if you can’t eat it?

Paradise is not a place.
It is a state of consciousness.

( Sri Chinmoy )

Some days you feel like you’re surrounded by idiots.
Other days, you realise it’s not just some days.

I would rather be able to appreciate things I cannot have than to have things I am not able to appreciate.
( Elbert Hubbard )

The problem with Tories is that eventually they run out of public assets to sell off.
( Errol Brandt )

Those who do not move do not notice their chains.
( Rosa Luxemburg )

War Often Takes Shocking Turns.
One thing we should have learned in the past 100 years is that war is hell.
We might also have noticed that, once begun, war is hard to stop and often takes shocking turns.
So those who began the current war in Ukraine really have no excuse.
There is no doubt about who they were.
In any war, the aggressor is the one who makes the first move into neutral or disputed territory.
And that aggressor was the European Union, which rivals China as the world’s most expansionist power, swallowing countries the way performing seals swallow fish (16 gulped down since 1995).
Ignoring repeated and increasingly urgent warnings from Moscow, the EU, backed by the USA, sought to bring Ukraine into its orbit.
It did so through violence and illegality, an armed mob and the over-throw of an elected president.
