Two Million Children Are Off-Line
Poor children are falling behind richer pupils at school because they do not have access to a computer or the internet at home.
More than a million youngsters do not have a computer and two million are off-line.
With children from poorer families two and a half times less likely to have the internet to help them with homework, the gap in achievement between the two groups is widening.
Valerie Thompson, chief executive of the E-Learning Foundation which did the research, said: “Not having a computer or not being online is a very tangible disadvantage when it comes to completing work”.
