Why Are We Drugging More And More Of Our Children?
The number of children in the UK being given controversial hyperactivity drugs has soared by almost 50 % in four years.
Government figures show prescriptions for Ritalin and similar drugs last year rose to more than 660,000 from 450,000 in 2006.
These drugs are given to children diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and contain chemicals similar to speed and cocaine.
Some doctors dispute ADHD even exists and campaigners claim the condition is not medical, just children being naughty or bored or neglected by self-indulgent parents.
