Bornean Elephants Are Classified As Endangered.
Found only on the island of Borneo, mostly in the Malaysian state of Sabah, there are fewer than 1,000 Bornean elephants left in the wild, and they are classified as endangered.
In the last 40 years, Sabah has lost 60% of the elephant’s natural forest habitat to logging and palm oil plantations.
According to one study, between 1980 and 2000, more wood was exported from Borneo than from the entirety of Africa and the Amazon combined.
This has left elephant populations fragmented and squeezed into small areas of preserved forest, such as those in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, an area in the floodplains of the Kinabatangan River where pockets of native forest exist within large agricultural estates.

We must do more than just cry out against the suffering of animals others are causing.
We must look at how we ourselves are affecting them through the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the household products we buy, the list goes on.
Only then will we be immune from the criticism of others crying out against the suffering of animals others are causing.

Anthrax poisoning has killed about 50 hippos in Virunga, Africa’s oldest national park located in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It is caused by a spore-forming bacterium, Bacillus anthracis, which survives for decades in soil where animals that died of anthrax or were carriers were buried.
It is transmissible to humans and potentially fatal in its inhaled form.
The hippos were found floating in a river south of Lake Edward, which separates the DRC from Uganda.
Although this disease mainly affects wildlife, it poses a potential risk of transmission to humans as well as domestic animals.

An active minority always wins out over a passive majority.
That is why testing cosmetics on animals, confinement of farm animals in cages and crates, operating puppy mills, trophy hunting, etc. are still legal even though polls have shown that most people oppose them.
All folks have to do to make them illegal is to get active.

The Unnecessary Murder Of Three Bears.
The tragic death of a man at the hands of a bear in Collier County, Florida, U.S.A., is undoubtedly heartbreaking.
However, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s immediate decision to kill three bears in response appears to be an overreaction, particularly since it is noted by the agency itself that human-bear encounters are extraordinarily rare.
In fact, the commission admits that this was the first bear attack fatality in Florida’s history, making it an extremely isolated incident.
This drastic action raises the question: why did three bears need to be killed within 24 hours of such a rare occurrence?
While the commission has stated that DNA testing will determine whether the three bears killed were involved in the attack, there has been no evidence to suggest that these particular bears were directly responsible.

The wild animals we hunt, the laboratory animals we use in experiments and the farm animals we consume are no less deserving of their lives than our pets are.

One of the most fundamental animal welfare problems is that the people who have the authority to make the decisions in many if not most cases simply are not qualified to exercise it and often are more interested in harming animals than helping them.

The European Union’s Toothless Animal Welfare Laws.
The EU’s landmark animal welfare laws look impressive, but the reality is a systemic failure.
The toothless enforcement process allows member states to find it cheaper to break the law than to follow it.
The European Union positions itself as the global leader in farm animal protection, with laws recognising animals as sentient beings and directives that should set worldwide standards, and its animal welfare framework looks impressive on paper.
Reports consistently show the same problems that the laws were meant to fix.
The evidence is damning and consistent across multiple countries and years.

We all feel joy, we all crave to be alive and to live freely and we all share this planet together.

Taxpayers in the United States directly fund the killing of wildlife at the request of farmers and ranchers, experimentation on animals and the roundup of wild horses on public lands.
United States taxpayers in addition subsidise the agriculture and energy industries, both of which are leading contributors to habitat destruction and climate change.
The federal government spends billions of dollars on these programs each year.
I for one would prefer that my tax dollars be used to help animals rather than harm them.

A Moron In Florida Kills Birds For Fun.
Native migratory birds like the great blue heron are federally protected in the United States by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
That means that it’s illegal to kill or otherwise harm them.
But that didn’t stop a moron in Florida from having “fun” by shooting and killing both a great blue heron and a mallard duck on his property.
A neighbour said they had stepped outside to enjoy the sunlight when they saw two great blue herons peacefully standing along the side of the man’s outdoor swimming pool.
Then, they heard the shot from the man’s pellet rifle.
According to the neighbour, one of the birds flinched and its feathers flew up from the force of the pellet hitting it.
Luckily, that bird lived long enough to fly away – but the second heron was not so lucky.
Another shot rang out.
And the second bird “dropped dead into the swimming pool.”
The previous day, the moron had already killed a mallard duck.

Anyone who says that life matters less to animals than it does to us has not held in his hands an animal fighting for its life.
The whole of the being of the animal is thrown into that fight without reserve.

West Coast Game Park Safari Raided After Years of Violations.
After years of documented animal welfare violations, the West Coast Game Park Safari near Bandon, Oregon, USA, was raided by state and federal authorities.
The action follows a long history of complaints and USDA citations, with reports of neglect dating back nearly a decade.
Inspectors uncovered alarming conditions: underfed big cats with visible bones, rats in food prep areas, and a dead tiger stored in the same freezer as animal food.
A 10-year-old lion was described as emaciated, while a 15-year-old black leopard showed clear signs of neglect.
In 2023, the park was cited for a critical violation after allowing visitors to pet dangerous animals, including a juvenile jaguar and a Syrian brown bear.

Founded in 1968, the park once promoted close-up encounters with exotic animals, but recent years brought damning reviews and advocacy group complaints.
In 2016, staff shot two black bears after one reacted to a loud noise.
Despite repeated warnings, authorities delayed action, prompting frustration from locals.
Animal advocates say enough is enough.
Facilities like this must be held accountable before animals reach the brink.
Speak up. Support ethical sanctuaries.
Never pay to see wild animals confined in roadside zoos.
These animals deserve care, space, and dignity — not neglect hidden behind ticket booths.

When we domesticated animals, for our own benefit, we took away their ability to fend for themselves and thus took on the responsibility to care for them.
When you consider the number of companion animals who are abused, neglected or euthanized each year and the way we treat farm animals, you can only conclude that we are failing to live up to our obligation.

Poachers in South Africa killed 103 rhinos in the first three months of this year, between January 1 and March 31.
65 of them were poached and killed inside national parks, highlighting an ongoing battle to protect one of the best-known endangered species.
The average of more than one rhino killed a day is in line with last year’s count and a stark reminder of the relentless threat to wildlife.
South African authorities have focused in recent years on criminal syndicates they believe are behind much of the country’s rhino poaching.

Wildlife Is In Catastrophic Decline.

The 73% decline in vertebrate wildlife populations during the last 50 years (mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish), is primarily driven by human activities that threaten biodiversity.

Habitat Loss and Degradation – human activities like deforestation, urbanization, and agriculture have led to the destruction and fragmentation of natural habitats, reducing the space and resources available for wildlife.

Pollution – air, water, and soil pollution from industrial activities, agriculture, and other sources can harm wildlife directly or indirectly by affecting their habitats and food sources.

Climate Change – changing weather patterns, rising temperatures, and sea levels are disrupting ecosystems and impacting species’ ability to adapt and survive.

Overexploitation of Resources – unsustainable hunting, fishing, and logging practices can lead to the depletion of populations and the loss of biodiversity.

Invasive Species – the introduction of non-native species can disrupt ecosystems, compete with native species, and threaten their survival.
