Giants in the Bible and Ancient Scriptures: Myth, Mystery, or Reality?

Stories of giants have fascinated people for thousands of years.
From the towering figure of Goliath in the Bible to strange beings described in other ancient texts, the idea of humans much larger than us raises an obvious question: were giants ever real?

The most well-known giant in the Bible is Goliath, described in First Book of Samuel as a Philistine warrior defeated by the young David.
Goliath’s height is given as “six cubits and a span,” which is often interpreted as around 9 feet (about 2.7 metres), though some ancient manuscripts suggest a shorter height closer to 6½ feet.

But Goliath is not the only giant mentioned.
In Book of Genesis, there is a brief and mysterious reference to the Nephilim:
“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days.”
These figures are sometimes described as the offspring of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of men.”
Later, in Book of Numbers, the Nephilim are again mentioned, with spies reporting that they felt “like grasshoppers” beside them.

Other groups, such as the Anakim and Rephaim, are also described as unusually large people living in the land of Canaan.
The idea of giants isn’t unique to the Bible.
In the ancient Jewish text Book of Enoch, the Nephilim are described in much greater detail.
They are portrayed as enormous beings who consumed vast resources and caused chaos on Earth before being destroyed.

Greek mythology speaks of the Giants (Gigantes), powerful beings who fought the gods.
Norse mythology tells of the Jötnar, a race of giants often in conflict with the gods.
These stories appear across cultures, suggesting that the idea of giants is a widespread human theme.

There is no reliable scientific or archaeological evidence that a race of giant humans, far larger than normal, ever existed.
Occasionally, stories circulate about giant skeletons being discovered, but these claims are almost always misidentified fossils (such as dinosaur bones), exaggerations, or outright hoaxes

That said, very tall individuals have existed.
Conditions such as gigantism can cause people to grow well over 7 or even 8 feet tall.
For example, Robert Wadlow reached 8 feet 11 inches (2.72 metres).
So while extreme height is real, an entire population of giants is not supported by evidence.

What Do Scholars Think?
Many believe giants were used to represent powerful enemies or overwhelming challenges.
Describing opponents as “giants” emphasised fear and difficulty.

Ancient storytelling often used exaggeration.
A very tall warrior could become a “giant” in retelling.
Some scholars think these stories may reflect encounters with unusually tall tribes or individuals, later remembered in dramatic terms.

In texts like the Book of Enoch, the stories take on a more mythological tone, blending spiritual beings, moral lessons, and ancient cosmology.
In biblical terms, the Nephilim are sometimes described as having a supernatural origin, though this interpretation is debated.

From a scholarly perspective, the idea likely developed from oral traditions passed down over generations, encounters with unfamiliar or imposing groups, or the human tendency to mythologise the unknown.
In short, the “origin” of giants is more likely cultural and literary than biological.

The stories of giants in the Bible and other ancient writings are best understood as part of humanity’s long tradition of storytelling.
They reflect fear, wonder, and attempts to explain a world that often felt vast and mysterious.

While there’s no solid evidence that giants once walked the earth as described, the stories themselves still carry meaning, about courage, perspective, and how people make sense of what they don’t fully understand.
And perhaps that’s why they’ve lasted so long.

The World’s Big Tech Companies Are Employing Hundreds Of Former Israeli Spy Agents.

A MintPress study has found that hundreds of former agents of the notorious Israeli spying organisation, Unit 8200, have attained positions of influence in many of the world’s biggest tech companies, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon.
The Israeli Defence Forces’ (IDF) Unit 8200 is infamous for surveilling the indigenous Palestinian population, amassing kompromat on individuals for the purposes of blackmail and extortion.

Spying on the world’s rich and famous, Unit 8200 hit the headlines last year, after the Pegasus scandal broke.
Former Unit 8200 officers designed and implemented software that spied on tens of thousands of politicians and likely aided in the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

According to employment website LinkedIn, there are currently at least 99 former Unit 8200 veterans currently working for Google.
This number almost certainly underestimates the scale of the collaboration between the two organisations, however.

For one, this does not count former Google employees.
Nor does it include those without a public LinkedIn account, or those who do have an account, but have not disclosed their previous affiliations with the high-tech Israeli surveillance unit.

This is likely to be a considerable number, as agents are expressly prohibited from ever revealing their affiliation to Unit 8200.
Thus, the figure of 99 only represents the number of current (or extremely recent) Google employees who are brazenly flouting Israeli military law by including the organisation in their profiles.

Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has also recruited heavily from the ranks of Unit 8200.
Undoubtedly, one of the most influential people at Meta is Emi Palmor.
Palmor is one of 23 individuals who sit on Facebook’s Oversight Board.

Described by Mark Zuckerberg as Facebook’s “Supreme Court”, the Oversight Board collectively decides what content to accept and promote on the platform, and what should be censored, deleted, and suppressed.

Palmor is a Unit 8200 veteran and later went on to become General Director of the Israeli Ministry of Justice.
In this role, she directly oversaw the stripping away of Palestinian rights and created a so-called “Internet Referral Unit” which would find and aggressively push Facebook to delete Palestinian content on its platform that the Israeli government objected to.

Other ex-Unit 8200 hold influential positions.
For instance, Eyal Klein, the head of data science for Facebook Messenger since 2020, served for fully six years as a captain in the controversial Israeli military unit.
Today, he is tasked with handling privacy issues for billions of users of Meta’s platforms.

Why is having former Unit 8200 officers in charge of security, development and software design at some of the world’s most important communications companies a problem?
To start with, one of the military unit’s primary functions is to use their tech know-how to carry out spying operations across the world.

As Israeli newspaper Haaretz noted in an investigation, “Israel has become a leading exporter of tools for spying on civilians,” selling invasive surveillance software to dozens of governments, many of them among the world’s worst human rights abusers.
In Indonesia, for instance, the software was used to create a database of gay people.

Unit 8200 also spies on Americans.
Whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA regularly passes on the data and communications of U.S. citizens to the Israeli group.
The most well-known example of Israeli spyware is Pegasus, a creation of NSO Group, a technically private company staffed primarily by Unit 8200 veterans.

The software was used to eavesdrop on more than 50,000 prominent people around the world.
This included dozens of human rights defenders, nearly 200 journalists, several Arab royals, and over 600 politicians, including French president Emmanuel Macron, Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan and Iraqi President Barham Salih.

Pegasus works by sending a text message to a targeted device.
If a user clicks on the link provided, it will automatically download the spyware.
Once infected, it is possible to track an individual’s location and movements, take screenshots, turn on the phone’s camera and microphone, retrieve messages and steal passwords.

But while the NSO’s Pegasus made worldwide news, another firm, more worrying and dangerous, has flown under the radar.
That firm is Toka, established by former Israeli defence minister and prime minister, Ehud Barak, with the help of a number of Unit 8200 officers.

Toka can infiltrate any device connected to the internet, including Amazon echoes, televisions, fridges and other home appliances.
Last year, Journalist Whitney Webb told MintPress that the company effectively acts as a front group for the Israeli government’s spying operations.

A third private spy firm filled with Unit 8200 graduates is Candiru.
The Tel Aviv-based company barely exists, officially.
It does not have a website.
And if you go to its headquarters, there is no indication that you are in the right place.
Nevertheless, it is widely believed that Candiru was behind malware attacks observed in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Qatar and Uzbekistan.

The company is named after a parasitic Amazonian fish that is said to swim up human urine streams and enter the body via the urethra.
It is an apt analogy for a firm that spends its time finding security flaws in Android and iOS operating systems and browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Safari, using this knowledge to spy on unsuspecting targets.

MintPress has previously documented how, in recent years, big tech companies like Twitter, Facebook, Google, TikTok and Reddit have hired hundreds of spooks from the CIA, NSA, FBI, Secret Service, NATO, and other intelligence agencies.
The fact that Unit 8200 is also a recruitment reserve underlines how strong an ally Israel is considered in the West.

Not One Word In Egypt’s History Records Anything Connected With The Bible’s Account Of The Exodus.

The story of the Exodus, in conjunction with others in the first five Books of the Old Testament, often referred to as the Books of Moses, the Torah or the Pentateuch, has been the foundation for three major religions and some minor ones.
The story of the Exodus only appears in the Hebrew Bible/the Christian Old Testament and nowhere else.
Not in Egyptian history, nor in any other history.

Despite decades of extensive archaeological endeavours, not one trace of it has ever been found.
This story describes over two million people escaping from Egypt and spending 40 years in the wilderness.
Almost all archaeologists, including those in Israel, acknowledge that it could not have possibly happened without significant evidence being left behind.
Yet not a trace has ever been found.

Written history records much in that area for over 15 centuries before this event was said to have occurred.
Surely, news would have quickly spread throughout the entire area about the mighty military of Egypt being destroyed by runaway slaves and many accounts of it would have been recorded.

Yet, no account of it has ever been found.
What history does record is that the mighty military of Egypt not only was not destroyed, but that they controlled the area of Canaan, the place where it is said the slaves escaped to, during that time and long afterwards.

Moses did not write any of the Torah.
It is very easy to confirm and to understand why the overwhelming majority of Biblical scholars today have determined that the “Books of Moses,” the first five books in the Old Testament, were edited in its final form after the post-exilic period (later than 586 B.C.E.) and absolutely not by Moses, who would have died many centuries before, that is, had he been a real person.

History records detailed information about thousands of individuals who lived more than 15 centuries before Moses was supposed to have lived, but not one word about him anywhere even though he is said to have defeated the Egyptian military and performed dozens of incredible miracles.
There are no historical records about Abraham, Isaac or Jacob either.

Not one word in Egypt’s history recording anything connected with the Bible’s account.
And not one word from any other surrounding nations or states (or private historian) who would have gladly published the destruction of a mighty army by runaway slaves.
That is just one of many reasons why very few scholars will defend the Bible’s account of it.

These are just a few of many other examples that clearly prove that the Bible was not inspired by a good and perfect God, it was written by human men, with human motives.
And like most all other religions, they have terrible consequences.

Regarding the story of the Exodus itself, maybe one day, hopefully soon, the Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace, prosperity, and harmony, as people of goodwill celebrating their remarkably close ancestry and in a land large enough for all of them.
But knowing the power of indoctrination, blind faith, and now politics, don’t bet on it.
