The eye is the window of the soul.
The animals look for man’s intentions right into his eyes.
( Hiram Powers )

A spell in the army might teach the low-life who kill defenceless animals for fun some things about the sanctity of life.
Unfortunately it won’t happen.
There’s no room in our Armed Forces for cowards and gutless wimps.

Most people don’t question their habit of eating animals, as they have been brought up to believe it is normal behaviour.
But causing suffering should never be considered normal.

( Benjamin Zephaniah )

We judge others by the way they treat the weak and the vulnerable and those who can do nothing for them.
No matter how educated or talented or rich you may be, or how cool you think you are.
How you treat animals and other people, tells us everything about you.

Never forget there is no such thing as ‘humane slaughter’.
I never saw an animal clicking its heels going to the slaughter-house.
There is always fear in their eyes.
They know exactly what’s going to happen.

So for anyone to claim there is such a thing as ‘humane slaughter’, well. that’s the greatest oxymoron in the world.
( Howard Lyman, cattle rancher turned vegan and activist )

Strong people don’t harm helpless animals.
Strong people don’t eat helpless animals.

To justify the mistreatment of animals, many use the feeble and pathetic excuse: We have always done it this way”.

If you don’t want to be beaten, imprisoned, mutilated, killed or tortured.
Then you shouldn’t condone such behaviour towards anyone, be they human or not.
( Moby )

Are you a baby cow?
No?

Then you shouldn’t be drinking their milk.

I thought it was pretty silly of me to, on the one hand, raise awareness of the plight of our hungry in Africa while, on the other hand, continue eating meat, dairy and eggs which require enormous quantities of Africa’s grain and plants in their production.
I suppose you could say that I have quite literally seen the light through my shades.

( Bono )

Suffering is not always because of the violence of assholes.
Sometimes it’s because of the silence of good people.

‘Sport’ hunting is a sickness, a perversion and a danger and should be recognised as such.
People who get their ‘amusement’ from hunting and killing defenceless animals can only be suffering from a mental disorder.
In a world with boundless opportunities for amusement, it’s detestable that anyone would choose to get thrills from killing others who ask for nothing from life but the chance to remain alive.

( Sir Roger Moore )

We must not only believe that animal cruelty will end, but that it must end.

For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same.
As one dies, so dies the other.
They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.

( Ecclesiastes 3:19 )

I Am A Wolf ..
It is in my nature to be kind, gentle and loving.
But know this:
When it comes to matters of protecting my family and my friends, do not trifle with me.
For I am also the most powerful and relentless creature you will ever know.

I chose to be vegan initially as an animal rights pursuit, as factory farming is barbaric, but have since become convinced that living vegan is not only the most compassionate and ecologically responsible way to live, but also the most healthy.
( Woody Harrelson )

The mark of the coward is that he attacks the defenceless.

Animals, like us, are living souls.
They are not things.
They are not objects.
Neither are they human.

Yet they mourn.
They love.
They dance.
They suffer.

They know the peaks and chasms of being.
( Gary Kowalski )

When you recognise an animal as someone, it becomes very hard to justify treating them as something.

I’m suspicious of people who don’t like dogs.
But I trust a dog when it doesn’t like a person.
( Bill Murray )

I’m Sorry We Couldn’t Save You ..
I’m sorry nobody else tried to save you.
I’m sorry people think their appetite is more important than your life.
I’m sorry other people think it’s more important to be polite and friendly to those responsible than to stand up for you.
I’m sorry that the whole world failed you.

Life is life’s greatest gift.
Guard the life of another creature as you would your own.
On life’s scale of values, the smallest is no less precious to the creature who owns it than the largest.

( Lloyd Biggle, Jr. )

Believing we have the right to decide which animals live and which animals die is not intelligence.
It’s arrogance, ignorance, heartless and shameful.

Few people fully realise the wealth of sympathy, kindness, loyalty and generosity hidden in the soul of a dog.
( Rose Winfold )

Look closely into the eyes of a caged animal.
If you see nothing, your soul is dead.

Sick of all this so called culture crap.
It is callous cruelty, nothing else.

( Anne Moffat )

Those who kill and those who support the killing of animals cannot call themselves civilised, nor can they call themselves true humans.

Within the prison walls of every cage are tortured souls with empty eyes and broken spirits.
( Eileen Hutchison, 1926-2008 )

Animals have a “knowing” when someone has a good heart.
This makes them feel safe being close to that human.

One third of all crops grown go to animal feed.
A statistic that means we can’t feed the world if maintained.
But could if we didn’t eat meat.
( Charlie O’Malley )

Cruelty to any living being is the same.
The only difference is the victim.

There is no such thing as “humane slaughter” like there is no such thing as humane rape, humane slavery and humane child molestation.
How in the world could slaughtering billions of innocents be done with love, humanity and concern?
Cultures might excuse and ignore certain victims of cruelty but that doesn’t exonerate the cruel act, especially from the victim’s point of view.

Which is the only thing that matters.
( Gary Yourofsky )

When someone says, “It’s just a dog”.
And you think, “And you’re just an asshole”.

A suffering or tortured animal always filled her with such a surge of sympathy that it lifted her clean out of herself.
( L.M. Montgomery )

The greatest threat to people is ignorance.
The greatest threat to animals is ignorant people.

When you become a vegan you give up nothing.
You just stop taking what was never yours to take.

Let me say it openly.
We are surrounded by an enterprise of degradation, cruelty, and killing which rivals anything that the Third Reich was capable of, indeed dwarfs it, in that ours is an enterprise without end, self-regenerating, bringing rabbits, rats, poultry, livestock ceaselessly into the world for the purpose of killing them.

( J.M. Coetzee )

All it takes for evil to triumph is for enough good people to do nothing.

Animal abuse is next to human abuse.
It is a big deal.
When will man learn that the cruelty he inflicts on animals is a reflection of his inner self?

There is a strange distinction for many people and also for the law between different kinds of animals.
In most countries it would be illegal to raise cats and dogs for meat or fur.
Other intelligent animals like pigs, cows and mink don’t have this privilege.
Why is that?
How can people say they love animals and still eat meat?
Are these people all psychos?
Are we surrounded by zombies?
Would all these people kill animals themselves in order to eat their meat?

( Owl Warrior )

I work hard so my dog and my cats can have a good life.

Loving animals means loving all animals.
Not just the ones we share our homes with.

Not only are animals unable to avail themselves of language to assert their own rights, but many fewer humans have a clear sense of kinship with animals than have a clear sense of kinship with other humans.
( Gary Steiner )

Everyone dies wondering.
None more so than ‘farm’ animals, wondering why, before they are savagely slaughtered, they have suffered abuse and pain and misery from the day they were born.

Eating meat is something you do to somebody else’s body without their consent.
( Pattrice Jones )

What evil creatures you are.
You kill other beings merely to satisfy your desire for the taste of their flesh.

As I learned about the consequences of my food choices and as I recognised that I didn’t have to eat animals, and that eating animals caused the animals to suffer, it caused an enormous footprint on our planet, and it wasn’t healthy, it made sense to go vegan.
And, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I think most people who’ve decided to go vegan share a similar experience.

( Gene Baur )

  1. Those who turn away from suffering must also take responsibility for the continuation of that suffering.
We must all raise our voices and protest.
United we can hopefully make the World a more compassionate place for all creatures.
