‘Addiction’ Is An Illusion

We are probably not far off now from a time when nobody will smoke.
Smokers are now treated as a sad statistic from another age, like Neanderthal man and victims of the Black Death.
If they want to drag out their habit against the trend until their lungs shrivel up and go black and their tongue falls out and die horribly well before their time then that’s fine with everybody.
It’s a free country, people are allowed to kill themselves any way they like.
Suicide has been legal in Britain since 1961.

It annoys me when smokers say: “I’ve tried everything to give up”, because they haven’t.
“Addiction” is an illusion, a crutch for the vain, weak and stupid.
You smoke because you enjoy it. End of.
Just don’t put any more fags in your mouth –
It’s not rocket science.
By the way, I’m a smoker.

EU Police Forces Have New Powers Over Ours.

Mrs Theresa May, the Liberal Conservative Home Secretary, announced that the government was following European orders by imposing on this country the European Investigation Order.
This gives EU police forces new powers over ours and is another step towards the snuffing out of our independent legal system.
Tory loyalists, who believe David Cameron’s stern pledges of no more concessions to the EU, ought to be shocked by this.
But forget them. Such wilful dupes richly deserve to be governed by confidence tricksters.
What about the rest of us, who don’t?

Why Do We Have To Sleep?

Sleep remains the great unsolved puzzle, the big black hole in the scientific universe.
That’s a bit of an exaggeration but it’s true that sleep is weird.
What’s it for?
And why does it come to some more easily than others?
If you don’t sleep you hallucinate and, eventually die.
Sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture.

The Americans now spend £15.6 billion a year on goods and services related to sleep, and America’s National Sleep Foundation claims that 70 million Americans – that’s more than the population of France – suffer from some sort of sleeping disorder.
There are more than 80 recognised sleep disorders.
In 1975, there were only three accredited sleep laboratories in the United States.
Today there are 1,782.

Tea And Coffee Reduce The Risk Of Heart Disease

Three to six cups of tea a day can almost halve your risk of dying from heart disease, researchers say.
Having regular cuppas reduces the chance of fatal heart problems by 45 per cent, while supping more than six cuts the risk of having heart disease by more than a third.
And two to four cups of coffee a day can cut the risk by 20 per cent.
Dutch researchers monitored the intake, heart disease, strokes and deaths of 37,514 people over 13 years.

Should I Join Facebook?

Over 500 million people are on Facebook.
I always thought Facebook was for lonely teenage nerds and paedos looking to groom young children for sex.
But now I’m worried that maybe it’s a major 21st century networking tool and I should bite the bullet and join up.
I had a good think about it –
And then decided I was right the first time.

If Council Tenants Have A Job They May Be Evicted

British politicians no longer understand what shame is.
Thanks to long years spent being flattered and pampered by civil servants, and freed from the inconveniences of normal life, they gradually lose the ability to see themselves as others see them.
They are paid from the pockets of hard-working men and women, many on salaries lower than the obscene expenses they receive.
They live in their own little world and are oblivious to what is going on in the real world.

Council tenants will no longer have a “home for life” under a plan unveiled by Prime Minister David Cameron.
He said fixed term contracts should be issued so that people can be evicted if they get a job or start earning more.
He wants council properties occupied by out-of-work poor families, which will create pockets of poverty and despair.
Dave, you keep talking about your vision of a ‘Big Society’ where everyone mucks in and helps one another.
Why don’t you help by building more council houses, get the unemployed into work, and give assistance to the ‘poor’ families?
You and your mates all have two or three houses each – why don’t you all muck in and let a poor family live in one of them?
You don’t have a bloody clue what’s going on in the real world, do you, Dave?

The Face Is No Index To The Heart

The wicked are always ungrateful.

By the errors of others, he that is wise,
Learns to take heed and beware.

The bird is known by his note,
The man by his words.

Gifts blind the eyes.

The eye is the window of the mind.

The face is no index to the heart.

He who makes no mistakes makes nothing.

Malice hurts itself most.

To deceive a deceiver is no deceit.

It is better to do well than to say well.

Nature has given us two ears, two eyes, and but one tongue.
To the end we should hear and see more than we speak.

Never answer a question until it is asked.

He that cannot ask cannot live.

Vice is often clothed in virtue’s habit.

It is a great victory that comes without blood.

He who has an art has everywhere a part.

Virtue is a jewel of great price.

Where vice is, vengeance follows.

Virtue is her own reward.

Do not fight until you see your own blood.

A wise head makes a close mouth.
